Privacy policy

Last updated: Sept 7th 2026

Seniors for Climate is a national volunteer campaign of older Canadians working for climate action. This policy explains what we collect when you visit seniorsforclimate.org or provide your information in forms on the site, as well as how to request changes or deletion of data.

The short version

We collect your name, email, city and postal code when you choose to give them to us. We use them to send you campaign updates and to tell you about events near you. We do not sell your information. You can leave at any time and we will delete what we hold.

Our website uses analytics and advertising tools from Meta (Facebook) and Google that collect information about your visit whether or not you sign up. Details below, including how to turn them off.

What we collect

When you sign up. Our sign-up form is hosted by Action Network and asks for your first name, email address, city and postal code. We use the first three characters of your postal code, known as the forward sortation area, to show you events near you. That identifies a neighbourhood rather than a household.

When you visit, whether or not you sign up. Our web host records standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested, time). Our analytics and advertising tools record pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, and how you arrived, including whether you clicked one of our ads.

What we never ask for. We do not collect date of birth, financial information, government identifiers, or health information. If you email us directly we will have whatever you put in that email.

The third parties on our site

Meta (Facebook)Meta Pixel, which measures whether our ads workUnited States
Google Analyticsmeasures how the site is usedUnited States
Google Mapsshows the map of local eventsUnited States

This means your information leaves Canada. Action Network, Meta and Google store and process data in the United States. If you would rather not have your data stored in the US at all, contact us and we will coordinate with you by phone or other means.

Advertising

We run ads on Facebook and Instagram. Because our ads are about a public issue and a federal budget, Meta classifies them as social issue advertising: they carry a “disclosure” label which is listed publicly in the Meta Ad Library, which includes what was spent and who we aimed to reach.

The Meta Pixel on our site tells us how many people who saw an ad went on to submit a sign up form. To limit tracking from these companies across all sites, including ours, use Meta’s ad preferences at facebook.com/adpreferences, Google’s at adssettings.google.com, and/or use a tracker-blocking browser extension, like Privacy Badger. Blocking tracking does not affect your ability to use our site or receive our emails.

How long we keep things

We keep your contact details until you ask us to stop, or until you have not opened anything from us in 4 years, whichever comes first. Analytics data is kept for 12 months. Server logs are kept for 7 days.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Write to contactinfo@seniorsforclimate.org and we will respond within 30 days. There is no cost.

Deleting your information

To have everything we hold about you erased, email contactinfo@seniorsforclimate.org with the subject line “Delete my information”, from the address you signed up with. We will delete your record from our mailing list and from Action Network, and confirm when it is done, normally within 7 days and always within 30.

This also removes you from any advertising audience built from our list. It cannot remove information Meta or Google hold about you independently of us; use the links above for that.

Children

Our campaign is by and for older Canadians. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe we have accidentally collected information, please contact us to coordinate proper deletion.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will tell subscribers by email before it takes effect.
